About Harry Winston's Jewelry Collection
Want a gift that keeps on giving this Mother's Day? Open her heart this Valentine's with red roses and with a rare piece from Harry Winston. Harry Winston said it best when he said "People will stare make it worth their while, I want the public to know more about precious gems... people forget that a good diamond, ruby or emerald is a possession to be prized for generations."
Harry Winston was an American jeweler. He donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958 after owning it for a decade. It is said that he once sent the 726-carat rough diamond, "The Jonker", through the US Postal Service, foregoing other more conventional means of secure transfer.
Harry Winston's jewelry empire began with his acquisition of Arabella Huntington's famous jewelry collection. Wife of railroad magnate Henry Huntington, Arabella amassed one of the world's most prestigious collections of jewelry, largely from Parisian jewelers such as Cartier.
When Harry Winston purchased the collection after her death, the designs of the collection were quite old fashioned. Harry Winston redesigned the jewelry into more contemporary styles and showcased his unique skill at jewelry crafting. Today, Harry Winston only offers jewelry that is rare, exceptional and utterly timeless. It is based on these founding principles, that Harry Winston has become the modern leader of the ultra luxury jewelry and timepieces of the business world.
